NOURISH YOUR SPIRIT
This section of my website is nothing more than a labor of love. I hope you discover an idea or a book worth reading as you peruse this area. This list includes books on subjects fundamental to well rounded leadership. You will discover that books on psychology, sales, nutrition, business, history and philosophy all can contribute to your success in life and business. The list hardly includes every book I’ve ever read, nor does it include every book I might recommend. I can promise simply that it includes books I do recommend to nourish your soul.
Book Recommendation of the Month
Meet Enzo
, dog and story teller. He is an avid Formula 1 fan and readily admits that his secondfavorite documentary is the one that promises he will return in his next life as a man. His favorite is the replay of the 1993 European Grand Prix during which Aryton Senna went from 4th to 1st in one lap while racing in the rain – Video Highlights of the Senna Victory.
Enzo can attribute everything he’s learned about Formula 1 to the times he spends with his owner, Denny, watching replays of races. Denny is an everyday man with uncommon courage and, as you would expect from a man who controls an engine on wheels hurtling down a road at 193 mph, he has much to teach about perseverance in the face of adversity.
Denny is at a crossroads in his life. The loss of his wife has devastated him and he will endure the next path on his journey as a single parent who dotes over his adorable daughter, Zoe. The challenges of raising a child as a single parent are difficult enough. But as the story unfolds, the metaphorical rain becomes oppressive and pushes our hero to the breaking point. Unscrupulous in-laws wreak havoc on our hero’s life. The pressure will make you genuinely angry and appalled by the selfishness that we so often see in life.
I recommend this book as an inspirational guide and a story that will capture your imagination. This was a story I read during a very difficult time in my life nearly two years ago. Things often go wrong for people and I was going through one of those times, having a little pity party for myself. Then I read The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.
You can’t control the circumstances you face in life, but only your response to them. There will always be adversity in your life that varies in degree. Enzo the dog teaches you to drive into the face of adversity and deal with it head on. This book is particularly wonderful if you do not consider yourself a big reader and want to find something easy, fun and meaningful to enjoy. If you want to smile, laugh and eventually cry, this is the book for you.
